Every person comes to their mat for a different reason. Whether your journey be for physical grace or mental strength; the four corners of your mat is a place to explore the depths of your own body and mind. Like many, I found myself on the mat searching for an active recovery and ended up staying for the mental benefits.
Life has a funny way of throwing us challenges we did not know we were capable of overcoming. With every challenge comes a surge of unexpected and uncharted emotions. Our bodies can easily manifest negative emotions into physical conditions; yet as humans we so rarely take notice. We go about our busy lives with a vast misunderstanding of our own mind-body experience. As we detach our ego from the equation our bodies begin to note patterns or instances that better serve us. Throughout the years, countless emotions have come and gone, but my mat has always been a constant.
After moving to Pinehurst in 2015, I stumbled into Hot Asana out of curiosity. The heated room was intimidating. However, I plopped my mat in the back of the room, watched those around me, and tried not to fall on my face. I found myself spending more time at the studio while searching for ways to improve my practice. In the fall of 2019, I registered for a 200 HR CYT at Hot Asana Yoga University and never looked back. I enjoy teaching a wide variety of classes from Nidra to Power. I have an immense amount of respect and gratitude for my instructors: Virginia Gallagher, Casey Backus, Brady Gallagher, Tali Sessions, and Annie Okerlin. I am extraordinarily grateful for Hot Asana and the yoga community Virginia has cultivated in Southern Pines.
Through our seasons of life, growth is inevitable. As my heart has grown beyond the four corners of my mat, I hope to be able to give love, gratitude, and understanding back to those who are on their own journeys. See you on your mat!
