"Yoga is not a work-out, it is a work-in." - Rolf Gates

Mary took a high-curiosity/low-commitment approach to exercise in college, where she took 12 PE classes including Pilates and weight lifting. For her, exercise was an ally for managing life's stresses. Her approach to exercise changed in 2014 after visiting Hot Asana Durham for the first time. She was hooked on the post-yoga feeling that lingered long after class ended. Mary’s commitment to her yoga practice deepened in 2016 after knee/IT band surgery limited her physical activity and forced her to slow down. Months of modifying postures in class led to a change in how she viewed practice--from pushing herself over the edge physically to focusing on what her body is asking for. She has found lasting physical and emotional strength through her practice, which led to her decision to receive her RYT 200 from Hot Asana in 2018. Mary strives to lead classes that are fun and accessible to all yogis and hopes to create a space which allows personal growth through a strengthened mind-body connection.
