I started attending yoga classes in 2013 at Hot Asana in Southern Pines. My yoga practice started off as a supplement to running, strength training and HIIT classes. I kept showing up because of the accepting atmosphere and overwhelming feeling of refreshment I received. As a registered nurse I’ve spent many shifts at work giving all my energy to take care of patients. I often used the breathing and mindful tools while working in the high stress environment of a hospital. Even after a long day, it’s easier to maintain good posture after practicing yoga, which effects our mood, energy level and performance doing anything. Events in my personal life pushed me to dive deeper into yoga and I attended the 200- hour yoga teacher training in Maya Tulum, Mexico with Virginia Gallagher and Lisa Rischitelli. Because of my nursing career on the mother-baby unit and labor and delivery, I was excited to also become prenatal yoga certified. I hope to give back to the community what yoga has offered me- self-awareness, self-acceptance and practical tools to use in our daily lives.
